I dont get the so-so reviews of this CD. Personally I think it continues right along with everything else Death Angel has put out. Nothing ..by any band…compares to the Ultra-Violence..but this is a classic thats rates right up there with the the rest of Death Angel’s stuff. Its actually a lot smarter and well crafted then earlier albums. Lots of good heavy riffs, multi voice background vocals, speed…its all Death Angel. If I have any critiscism its the production, a bit uneven. The drums seem too loud. Other than that minor nit pick….thumbs up.
I think talking any about classic thrash bands its entirely relative to your age. Would you think The Ultra Violence or Peace Sells or whatever was just as good now in your late 30s as you did at 15? Who knows. I know id have LOVED this at 15 and it would be what I see as “classic”. On its own this is a very heavy album, with great songs and the angry speed that is Death Angel. The whole band is great and not to single them out but Mark’s voice is just as good, Andy’s drumming is great, the guitar playing top notch and unique, it’s a thrashfest.
The first track to really get me hooked was “Buried Alive”. If that doesnt move you in some fashion, get your pulse checked.
Ive never got into ANY Death Angel album quickly, it takes a few listens, this is no exception. These guys have a unique sense of melody. “Soulless” is a good example. Its has almost a poppy rock chorus…the gang vocals take it to a place most thrash metal bands dont tread. What completes it and makes it work is the lead vocal heaviness. He comes in hard and pissed and finishes it off, taken as a whole it works. Same for “The Noose”, “When Worlds Collide” “God vs God” (what a killer groove) just too mention a few. Good stuff.
Give it some time, pick the right mood. This is a killer thrash album. These guys never get their due. A great band. A+ from me.

Customer Reviews
Killer. – Deimos – Alberta
Awesome. One of thrash’s best bands by far. Unique, fresh and heavy as hell. \m/\m/ Excellent release.
Horribly underrated thrash greats – Scott Hedegard – Fayetteville, AR USA
If the novelty of a band of thrash Filipinos isn’t enough, the horrendously underrated Death Angel’s music is novel enough. Novel because there’s real singing and harmonizing background vocals, the licks are fresh and the overall riff quotient worthy of Exodus or Slayer, with Death Angel’s lead guitar work quite a bit better than King’s and Hanneman’s.
“Killing Season” was released in 2008, and they have toughened up their sound considerably since their classic “Act III”, which was by no means a wimped out affair, but cleaner and not quite as heavy tone-wise. The vocals are reminiscent but not derivative of a much younger and tougher Ronnie James Dio, minus the Dungeons and Dragons imagery, thank Merlin. The guitars are much tougher, and the lead work is stellar. “Lord Of Hate” and “God Vs. God” are standouts, but the whole CD shines.
Death Angel fits neatly into the newer work of Kreator, thrash titans if there ever were any, but still have that Bay Area style that gave us thrash metal, black and eventually death metal to begin with. Best of all, it’s intelligent and full of hooks and great beats. How about a tour with the up and coming Evile? Now that would be a thrash lover’s wet dream. Maybe even Kreator as the headliners. Don’t pass “Killing Season” up. You’ll be sorry you did.
OLD SCHOOL THRASH IS BACK – I. Davila – Denver
Death angel is one of those bands I never heard a lot of back in metals golden age. Thank god they are still around here in the reawakening to bring their message of metal to all the new young metalheads, and the oldtimers like myself, who are realizing that metal was their life back in the eighties, and early nineties. I re-awoke to metal in 2003 after a six year attempt to wash my ears with mellow classic rock such as the dead, and the who. While I still like, and appreciate a lot of the old school mellow rock acts, and seventies arena bands, my heart was always with metal. Thank god for the internet, which helped to remind me of my first music love.
And Killing Season is an album that lives up to all my expectations for a great metal album. Killer thrash, that rocks, and lives up to its name, and genre. This is real thrash, and along with Testament’s the Formation of Damnation, 2008 has really put old school thrash back on the map. This is angry punkish raw fast metal, which is what the genre was founded on right. Lord of Hate, Sonic Beatdown, Carnival Justice, the Noose, and When Worlds Collide are so metal. As is everything else on the album. If you don’t have this yet, and you consider yourself a fan of thrash, or classic metal, please get this. It is essential.
