Arkaea, super metal group joined between two guys from Threat Signal are Jon Howard (Vocals) and Pat Kavanagh (Bass) and two guys from Fear Factory are Christian Olde Wolbers (Guitar) and Raymond Herrera (Drums), the band was formed in 2008 and Year In The Darkness is the first full-length album released in 2009. The album was produced by Christian Olde Wolbers and Arkaea and mixed by producer Terry Date (Deftones, Slipknot, White Zombie, Soundgarden, Pantera) and mastered at Sterling Sound by Ted Jensen.
Don’t expect when the master musicians joined together and they should to create the great songs. We can’t deny the songs from Arkaea that based of melodic death metal from Threat Signal breed with Groove / Industrial beat from Fear Factory but all tracks are only the trendy metalcore and they are not different from the million metalcore in the world. Actually, I read the review of Arkaea before I received this album. Many Medias said the weak point of this band that is the roar style of Jon Howard is really similar to Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, especially on the part of the clean vocal. I agreed with that, this weak part made the songs on the pop base, not only on clean vocal but all of roar and clean. Only one song in this album that I think worthy with the professional musicians is Break The Silence, intense groove industrial beat up with some melodic parts (but during the coffee break fuckin clean hook vocal is really pop, haha), all other tracks are boring!
If you are the fans of Threat Signal or Fear Factory, I suggest that you guys should go back to turn on the old stuffs of them is really good way more than buy this album. But if you guys wanna support of Arkaea, listen their songs at myspace.com/arkaeamusic.
